Olatunji stressed that the substantial raise is necessary due to inflation caused by the removal of petrol subsidy.
He further highlighted the need for a state-of-emergency declaration on local government administration to address issues such as infrastructure decay, poverty, and unemployment in local governments across the country.
Additionally, the union called on the federal government to establish a special intervention fund to address social welfare needs and support projects and programs.
In light of the insecurity affecting food production, NULGE urged assistance in establishing a special vigilante to protect farmers.
The union also recommended utilizing the $800 million from the World Bank for mass transit and alternate energy provision, vocational skill acquisition centers, and discouraging importation.
Furthermore, the federal government was advised to grant tax rebate/holiday to low-income earners and small-scale entrepreneurs to encourage and sustain their businesses.
NULGE strongly believes that granting autonomy to local governments is crucial for genuine national development and direct funding.
