The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with the Ebonyi State government, has provided relief materials to the victims of the 2022 flood and fire disasters in the 13 local government areas of the state. The agency also emphasized the importance of sensitizing residents in flood-prone areas to relocate to avert future disasters.

The wife of the governor, Mrs. Uzoamaka Nwifuru, assured that the distribution would be done in different phases, encompassing not only the flood and fire victims but also people with disabilities.

However, during the distribution, there was a mild drama as Government House security personnel, residents of Abakaliki metropolis, and others stormed the venue and looted the materials.

Some victims who could not receive the materials accused the security agencies of compromise and called on the state government to investigate the alleged looting. The chaotic scene left many victims unable to access the materials they came for.
