Troops from Sector 1 OPHD responded promptly to a distress call about a kidnapping and robbery perpetrated by armed bandits on the Tsafe-Gusau highway in Zamfara State. Upon arrival at the scene, a firefight ensued, resulting in the bandits retreating due to the superior firepower of the troops. The kidnapped victims, all of whom were passengers and commuters, were rescued unscathed.
In a similar scenario, troops from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Garin Hausawa acted upon information about the presence of a large number of armed bandits in Madobiya village, Kebbi state. The troops’ aggressive stance led to the bandits fleeing and abandoning their victims. Three more kidnap victims were rescued and safely returned to their families.
In Sokoto state, Special Forces troops encountered armed bandits during a routine patrol along the Gundumi and Marnona road. Following the encounter, one bandit was neutralized, and others fled with gunshot wounds. Among the items recovered were an AK-47 Rifle and a loaded AK-47 Magazine. CONTINUE READING
On August 6, 2023, Sector 3 troops in Sokoto state responded to information about bandits infiltrating Manu village. Despite the bandits’ initial fierce resistance, the troops managed to repel them, recovering items including two motorcycles, a mobile phone, blankets, and other engineering equipment.
The Forward Operating Base Raka troops, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended a suspected bandit in the Gigane District of Gwadabawa LGA, Sokoto state. Investigations have since revealed that the arrested bandit and his group have been terrorizing the local community.
In another incident on the same day, troops from Sector 2 OPHD encountered numerous armed bandits while patrolling the Jibia, Magama, and Maidabaru roads in Katsina state. After the encounter, three bandits were neutralized, with several others fleeing with gunshot wounds. However, two courageous soldiers were wounded and are currently receiving medical attention.
Major General Godwin Mutkut, Commander of the Joint Task Force Northwest OPHD, praised the troops for their efforts and urged them to continue until all bandits’ hideouts have been cleared. He assured the public that no bandits’ enclave would be left untouched under his jurisdiction.
General Mutkut called on the public to remain vigilant, especially as bandits are increasingly operating under the cover of darkness.
