In a verdict delivered on Thursday, a three-member panel of the tribunal removed Sowunmi from the position and declared Ogunyemi, the APC candidate and former Secretary of the Lagos State APC, as the rightful victor.

The tribunal panel, comprising Justice Ashu A. Ewah (Chairman), Justice Abdullahi A Ozegya, and Justice M A Sambo, ruled that the Labour Party candidate was ineligible to participate in the elections.

In a separate development, the Court of Appeal in Owerri, Imo State, has ousted Julius Abure and reinstated Lamidi Apapa as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP).

In its judgment on Thursday, the court officially recognized Apapa as the legitimate national chairman of the party.

Furthermore, the court invalidated the candidacies of gubernatorial candidates endorsed by the Abure-led faction of the party, including Senator Athan Achonu, who was aiming to contest in the upcoming election in Imo State.

The court directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to acknowledge the governorship candidates affiliated with the Apapa-led faction in Bayelsa, Kogi, and Imo states, and to publish their names.

It’s worth noting that a Court of Appeal in Benin City, Edo State’s capital, previously affirmed Abure as the legitimate national chairman of the party in a ruling on Monday.
