Islamic Clerics Brief President Tinubu On Niger Republic Political Situation

Recalling the context, the Islamic leaders, led by Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, had earlier received approval from President Tinubu to negotiate with the military junta leaders in Niger Republic on behalf of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Following their meeting with General Abdourahamane Tchiani, the head of the military junta in Niger Republic, the clerics visited the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday to brief President Tinubu about the outcomes of their discussions regarding the political situation in the neighboring country.
The clerics reiterated their stance against resorting to armed conflict and emphasized the importance of dialogue in resolving the political turmoil in Niger Republic.
Addressing the media after the meeting with President Tinubu, the Islamic clerics shared that they maintained their initial position of advocating for a peaceful resolution without military intervention.
Sheikh Bauchi conveyed that President Tinubu endorsed their return to Niger Republic for further dialogue with the military junta.
He stated, “We have just met with President Bola Tinubu and conveyed all the details of our engagements in Niger. He expressed his appreciation and reiterated our mandate to continue pursuing dialogue with the junta there.
We have been granted a receptive audience, and we are confident that through peaceful discussions, our goals will be realized.”
He further expressed the group’s objectives: “Our primary objective is to avoid conflict and foster peace within our region.
We are committed to contributing our spiritual influence through peaceful and cooperative means. We remain committed to pursuing these aims and extending our gratitude to the President for affording us this opportunity.”
