“The financial support of ₦500 million by RHI is a modest step towards helping these families rebuild their lives, providing them with the means to secure shelter,” she stated.
Mrs. Tinubu expressed deep concern for the security situation in Plateau, which has resulted in the loss of livelihoods, homes, and the displacement of entire communities.
She underscored the need for concrete measures to bring relief to those affected, affirming the commitment of President Tinubu’s administration to achieve this.
These measures include dialogue and other reconciliation efforts aimed at finding lasting solutions, not only for Plateau but also for challenges faced across the nation.
“Homes are destroyed, lives are disrupted, and countless families find themselves displaced and without the basic necessities needed for survival,” she remarked.
“At times like this, it is not enough to simply have empathy and offer condolences. We must take concrete action to alleviate the sufferings of those affected, and this is why we are here today to offer support.”
Mrs. Tinubu also called on privileged Nigerians to extend assistance to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to enable their return to their communities and the rebuilding of their lives.
She emphasized the importance of leveraging Nigeria’s diversity to overcome challenges that threaten the nation’s unity.
Furthermore, Mrs. Tinubu highlighted that the agriculture component of the RHI would provide grants, fertilizers, and other agricultural inputs to 20 selected farmers in all states, based on their specialization.
In his address, Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau commended Mrs. Tinubu for selecting a state governed by an opposition party, emphasizing that governance transcends political differences.
“After politics, we must focus on governance, particularly the welfare of the people,” he asserted. Governor Mutfwang urged beneficiaries to support others and utilize the intervention effectively, assuring that their use of funds would be closely monitored to align with its intended objectives.
He also praised Mrs. Tinubu for her compassion and encouraged her to continue advocating for the needy, highlighting her passion for IDPs as an example for others to follow.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang-Buba, who also serves as the Chairman of the Plateau Council of Chiefs and Emirs, expressed gratitude to Mrs. Tinubu for her intervention and concern for the challenges faced in the state.
