He made this commitment during the inaugural edition of the “Governor Seyi Makinde Basic Education School Sport (BESS) Competition,” organized in partnership with the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
The governor emphasized that his administration is focused on delivering top-notch learning resources, ensuring the timely disbursement of teachers’ salaries and allowances, and providing regular training and workshops to enhance their skills and performance.
Represented by the state’s Commissioner for Education, Professor Abdulwaheed Adelabu, who officiated the kickoff of the final match, Governor Makinde reiterated the state government’s dedication to the development of sports.
He highlighted that young people represent the dynamic segment of the nation’s population, and it is crucial to engage them in sports for the greater purpose of nation-building.
Governor Makinde stated, “Our youth are the foundation that needs to be strengthened through sports to develop the necessary resilience to cope with the challenges of a competitive world.”
