Previously, the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, had alleged that individuals in military uniforms made an effort to assassinate the Governor while he was traveling to Abuja.

Fanwo contended that these individuals opened fire on Bello’s convoy at around 4 pm on Sunday. He stated that the attack occurred at three different locations along the Lokoja-Abuja highway, with the final incident taking place near the Kwali Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

However, Governor Bello has contested the assertions made by his Commissioner. Speaking to reporters at his residence in Abuja, he clarified that there was a confrontation between his security escorts and personnel from another security agency at a checkpoint along the road. He confirmed that the disagreement was subsequently resolved.

Governor Bello stated, “I want to emphasize unequivocally, dear Nigerians, there was no assassination attempt on me, Yahaya Bello, the executive governor of Kogi State, by the military or by anyone.”
