Matawalle had, last Friday, denied allegations of embezzling significant sums from the Zamfara cargo airport project.

In a statement released in Gusau, the spokesperson for the Zamfara Governor, Sulaiman Bala Idris, pointed out that Matawalle’s response exposed a blatant breach of trust.

Idris stated, “The dire financial situation that the current administration inherited in Zamfara State is undeniably a consequence of the actions of the past government under Bello Matawalle.

He unilaterally, through a mere phone call, instructed the Ministry of Local Government, without adhering to due process, to withdraw 1,000,000,000 billion Naira from the Local Government Joint Account on October 25th, 2021, and subsequently paid 825,000,000 million Naira to the contractors without proper evaluation.”

The statement emphasized, “The Zamfara State Government would typically refrain from responding to an individual accused of embezzlement.

However, as a responsible government, we find it necessary to present the facts in light of his denial of the alleged embezzlement.”
