Ekong elaborated that the assembly will address topics related to the Environment and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He quoted Akpabio as expressing that it would have been a disservice if Nigeria did not participate in the assembly. He added that the presence of Nigerian lawmakers is aimed at reinforcing the nation’s bilateral relationships.
Akpabio stated, “It would have been a disservice to Africa if Nigeria did not have a strong delegation at the IPU. Our presence here is to ensure that our bilateral relationship is strengthened. With our presence, we can forge a strong bilateral parliamentary relationship for the interest of our nations.”
Meanwhile, Akpabio conveyed his request to the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, not to utilize his name as an example in discussions about the fight against corruption.
During his presentation to the Senate for screening last Wednesday, Olukoyede mentioned Akpabio’s name as an example in the context of an ongoing corruption investigation. However, he ceased his remarks upon sensing the mood of the lawmakers in the Chamber.
