This budget, named ‘Budget for a Greater Jigawa,’ reflects an almost 23 percent increase compared to the total appropriation in the 2023 fiscal year.

Governor Namadi detailed that nearly N111.98 billion, constituting about 37 percent of the total budget, is allocated for recurrent expenditure.

The remaining N175.44 billion, approximately 59 percent, is earmarked for capital investments.

Highlighting the emphasis on human capital development, the governor allocated N131.8 billion to critical sectors, such as health and education.

This amounts to over two-fifths of the total budget, with the education sector receiving over N95.5 billion, equivalent to about 32 percent of the proposed budget—a significant surpassing of the UNESCO Education For All Initiatives’ 15 to 20 percent benchmark.

For the health sector, the combined recurrent and capital expenditure is N36.2 billion, representing approximately 12.2 percent of the total budget, slightly below the 15 percent benchmark advocated by the African Union Abuja Health Declaration.

Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Haruna Aliyu Dangyatum, lauded the collaborative relationship between the executive and legislative branches. He assured a swift passage of the budget within four weeks.
