headquarters in Owerri, Imo State, alleging the Commission’s refusal to provide access to documents related to the November 11 governorship election.
The LP candidate, Senator Athan Achonu, claimed that INEC had denied him access to certified true copies of election materials.
LP State Chairman Callistus Ihejiagwa, addressing journalists during the protest, expressed the party’s frustration with the Commission’s conduct.
Ihejiagwa, speaking from a wheelchair, stated, “INEC is frustrating us. Nine days after an official request was made by our solicitors to the State INEC office, this Commission has continued to deny our legal team access to certified true copies of documents used for the November 11 governorship election in the state as required by law.”
He questioned the delay in releasing requested materials, highlighting the efficiency of INEC in announcing results within 12 hours after the election, contrasting it with the delay in providing supporting documents.
Ihejiagwa recounted being assaulted during the collation of election results, expressing concern for his family’s trauma.
Ben-Opara Emmanuella, Head of the Department of Voter Education and Publicity of INEC in Imo State, assured the protesters that the LP’s application was being attended to and stated, “It’s your right to request for CTC.
The materials are being assembled as we speak. We are already costing the material, and by tomorrow we’ll give you the cost of payment.
