These defectors were reportedly welcomed by the state APC chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello, at Lugard House in Lokoja.

Their spokesperson, Awe Kayode, confirmed their decision at the reception and expressed their collective resolution to merge their political structure with the APC to support the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Usman Ododo, in the forthcoming election.

Kayode explained that they decided to defect because they recognized that the LP was no longer a viable option in the state.

He stated, “Another reason for our defection is our conviction that the APC candidate, Usman Ododo, has demonstrated himself as a unifier whose nationalistic qualities are essential to build upon the accomplishments of Governor Yahaya Bello.”

He emphasized his belief in Ododo’s ability to promote the “Kogi Agenda” and unite the people of the state. He also mentioned their previous success in delivering significant votes for the LP’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and their willingness to do the same for APC and Ododo in the upcoming election.

The LP chairman for Bassa LGA, who also heads the LP Chairmen Forum, Jimba Emmanuel, added that a political party is merely a platform for power, and good governance depends on individuals committed to development and delivering the benefits of democracy to the people.

He stated that the LP’s gubernatorial candidate lacked the necessary qualities, which led to their decision to leave the party.

The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Wemi Jones, commended Awe Kayode for his determination and mobilization skills.

He encouraged the defectors to work together to secure victory for the APC’s gubernatorial candidate and continue the progress achieved during Governor Yahaya Bello’s administration.
