Former NUPENG General Secretary, Frank Kokori, Passes Away....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The former General Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Chief Frank Ovie Kokori, has passed away at the age of 80. Chief Kokori, a veteran labor leader, breathed his last at a kidney treatment hospital in Warri, Delta State, in the early hours of Thursday.
His health had deteriorated earlier in the week, and he was placed on life support. Despite his significant contributions to the nation’s democracy, Kokori had expressed feelings of abandonment in the past month regarding his failing health.
Last month, during a visit to the hospital, Kokori recounted his struggles, stating that he paid for the hospital’s generator fuel to ensure vital equipment, such as the air conditioner, could function. He emphasized his dedication to democracy and recounted his role in organizing strikes against the government during the annulment of the June 13, 1993 presidential election.
Born on December 7, 1944, Kokori was an active member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) until his passing. He attended Urhobo College in Warri, Eko Boys High School in Lagos, and the University of Ibadan. His working career began at the Electricity Corporation of Nigeria (ECN), which underwent various changes before privatization.
The family is expected to release an official statement, according to one of Kokori’s aides who confirmed the sad news but refrained from providing further details until an official announcement is made.
