Tinubu Initiates Projects on Abuja-Lagos Super Highway and Coastal Road in 2024 Budget

President Bola Tinubu is set to kickstart development projects, including the much-discussed Abuja-Lagos Super Highway and Lagos-Port Harcourt Coastal Road, according to the 2024 budget proposal currently under consideration by the National Assembly.

The budget allocates N500 million each for the Abuja-Lagos Super Highway and the Lagos-Port Harcourt Coastal Road. Additionally, several new and ongoing road projects across the six geopolitical zones are outlined for attention in the 2024 fiscal year.

Some of the highlighted projects include the construction of Lafia Road and the dualization of the 9th Mile (Enugu) Otukpo-Makurdi (Keffi Phase II) Road Project, allocated N94.828 billion.

The budget also covers the rehabilitation of Shagamu Road in Lagos State with an allocation of N1.3 billion and the rehabilitation of the access road to Apapa/Tin Can Island Port/NNPC Depot, budgeted at N143.5 million.

For the dualization of Ibadan/Ife-Ilesha Road in Oyo State, the sum of N2.2 billion was allocated, while N104 million was set aside for the rehabilitation, construction, and expansion of Lagos-Shagamu-Ibadan dual carriageway section I, Lagos State.

Kano-Maiduguri Road Section IV, Potiskum-Damaturu Road received an allocation of N2.1 billion.

Other projects include the dualization of Aba-Ikot Ekpene road in Abia/Akwa Ibom States with N1.410 billion, the construction of Ikot Ekpene Border-Aba-Owerri dualization with N1.01 billion, and the rehabilitation of Odukpani Junction, -Akpet central section -Ikom-Ogoja Road in Cross River State, allocated N1.1 billion.

The budget further provides for the construction of culverts and drains in flood-prone areas on federal roads in different zones, with various budgetary allocations. The total capital expenditure for both the Federal Ministry of Works and the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) is set at N617.853 billion out of the total allocation of N657.227 billion for the 2024 fiscal year, with N39.374 billion allocated for recurrent expenses.
