During an appearance on Arise TV, Senator Kingibe addressed the controversy surrounding the SUV purchase, emphasizing that the vehicles were acquired before the 10th Senate took office. She suggested that the 10th Senate might consider purchasing cheaper cars made in Nigeria in the future.
Kingibe stated, “You can hold us responsible for the cars that the 11th Assembly rides, but the ones that we got were purchased and sorted out by the 9th Assembly. Every National Assembly is always provided with utility cars.”
Responding to concerns about senators’ salaries, Kingibe revealed that she spends a significant portion of her basic salary on palliatives, emphasizing the challenges of poverty faced by many in the country. She clarified that the basic salary of a senator is not as much as perceived and shared insights into how she allocates funds for palliative measures.
“The truth of the matter is that I suppose more attention is being paid because the bulk of the people are poorer, but every National Assembly is always provided with utility cars,” Kingibe added.
