In the northern region, NiMet predicts sunny skies enveloped in a hazy atmosphere throughout the forecast period. A similar forecast is extended to the North Central region, with sunny conditions amid haziness expected.
For the Inland states of the South, the agency foresees cloudy skies accompanied by intermittent spells of sunshine. Meanwhile, the coastal cities are expected to experience cloudy conditions, with the possibility of thunderstorms over specific regions, including Edo, Ondo, Imo, Ebonyi, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states during the afternoon and evening hours.
On Monday, NiMet anticipates dust haze over the northern region, continuing with sunny skies in a hazy atmosphere over the North Central region. The Inland states of the South are expected to experience cloudy skies with occasional sunshine, while coastal cities may witness morning mist, especially over Delta, Bayelsa, Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom. Thunderstorms are projected later in the day over parts of Rivers, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom states.
Tuesday’s forecast includes dust haze with a visibility range of 2km to 5 km over the northern region. The North Central region is also expected to encounter dust haze during this period. Cloudy skies with intermittent sunshine are predicted for the Inland states of the South and the Coastal cities.
NiMet issued a cautionary note, emphasizing the suspension of dust particles and advising the public, particularly those with respiratory issues like asthma, to take necessary precautions. Additionally, the agency warned of potential flash floods due to moderate to heavy rainfall and advised the public to avoid driving and walking through floodwaters. It also highlighted the likelihood of strong winds accompanying thunderstorms, urging individuals and disaster risk managers to be proactive in averting loss of lives and property during the rainy season.
Furthermore, NiMet advised airline operators to stay updated with weather reports from its office for effective planning in their operations.
