Speaking at the 12th convocation ceremony of the institution, the governor, represented by the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Mr Femi Agagu, urged philanthropists, stakeholders, and prosperous community members to collaborate with the government in expanding infrastructural development within educational institutions across the state.
Governor Akeredolu acknowledged the AAUA’s vision to be a leading institution in research, commending recent research endeavors by both staff and students. He emphasized the university’s significant role in staff training and the development of skilled personnel within and outside the government, emphasizing its integral contribution to growth and development in the state and the nation.
The Pro-Chancellor of AAUA, Dr Tunji Abayomi, credited the university’s progress to the collaborative efforts of stakeholders, including staff, host communities, and university leadership. Despite recent challenges, Abayomi highlighted the institution’s resilience and determination to achieve its goals, fostering an environment of stability, peace, and progressive growth.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, congratulated the graduates and urged them to make meaningful contributions to their alma mater and society. He assured stakeholders of the university’s dedication to excellence and its ambition to secure a prominent place on the international stage. Despite economic challenges, the VC noted that the convocation reflected the university’s commitment to benchmarking against global institutions, emphasizing a deliberate initiative to institutionalize and enhance its competitive edge.
During the ceremony, a total of 5,249 students received various degrees, with 42 graduating with first-class honors, 1,088 with second-class upper division, 2,264 with second-class lower division, and 605 with third class.
