Speaking during a thanksgiving ceremony for the former Commissioner for Works, George Kelly Alabo, Wike addressed the ongoing political dispute with his successor, Governor Sim Fubara. Wike attributed the discord to Fubara’s deviation from political norms, emphasizing the need for adherence to established rules.
Contrary to speculation linking the rift to Wike’s alleged demand for a significant share of the state’s financial allocations, the minister dismissed such claims, stating that he has no ulterior motives in the state. Urging the people of Rivers State to prioritize their collective well-being and avoid succumbing to propaganda and blackmail, Wike emphasized that he has already played his part in the state’s development.
Highlighting his contentment with his current role in Abuja, Wike urged politicians to operate within the framework of established rules, emphasizing the importance of playing fair in politics. As the Minister of the FCT, Wike drew parallels between his responsibilities and those of a state governor, noting his autonomy in presenting and overseeing his budget before the National Assembly.
In essence, Wike called for a focus on the essential matters, encouraging a departure from divisive tactics and emphasizing the importance of abiding by political principles.
