The annual convention, traditionally held in Aba every January, has faced disruptions due to the internal disputes within the church leadership. In response to the crisis, the state government had officially prohibited the 2024 annual convention of the ACCM.

Apostle K.C. Wiper, the Special Assistant on Religious Matters to Governor Alex Otti, addressed the situation in a statement. He clarified that the state government became aware of a Facebook post from the church’s page, asserting that the governor had acknowledged a General Overseer and sanctioned the resumption of the annual convention.

Wiper emphasized, “Let it be known to all and sundry that Dr. Alex Otti has neither approved the lifting of the ban earlier placed on the 2024 annual convention nor endorsed anyone as General Overseer.” He further underscored that the governor plays no role in selecting leadership for the church or any other religious institution.

This statement aims to dispel any misconceptions regarding the government’s position on the ACCM convention and reaffirms that the ban remains in force until further notice.
