The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has clarified that Uber, Bolt and other e-hailing platforms have not been prohibited from operating at Nigerian airports.
The authority issued the clarification on Thursday following concerns over reports of restrictions on e-hailing services at some airports under its management.
FAAN explained that its policy was not intended to prevent passengers from choosing their preferred mode of transportation or stop e-hailing companies from providing services to air travellers.
Rather, the agency said its objective was to ensure that commercial transportation services operating within airport premises comply with established regulations designed to enhance security, passenger safety and efficient airport operations.
FAAN stated that e-hailing services remain an important part of the transportation options available to passengers and stressed that such services must operate within the airport’s security and operational framework.
The authority said:
“FAAN wishes to clarify that its position is not, and has never been, directed at limiting passengers’ access to transportation options or undermining the important role that e-hailing services play in providing convenient mobility to air travellers.
“The services must be identifiable, accountable and properly integrated into the airport’s operational and security framework. ACHRAMS is not an e-hailing application and is not intended to compete with or replicate the services provided by Uber, Bolt or any other e-hailing platform.
