President Tinubu underscored the pivotal role a rejuvenated steel development industry plays in driving robust economic growth and unlocking vast opportunities for Nigeria’s talented entrepreneurs. Emphasizing his commitment to building a nation where every citizen enjoys equal opportunities for prosperity, he expressed optimism that new investments in steel production would catalyze growth across various sectors. The president envisioned industrialization becoming a reality with ample energy and steel, asserting that Nigerian steel would serve as a cornerstone for both the national economy and those of neighboring regions in the coming years. President Tinubu commended his cabinet for aligning with his strategy to attract fresh investments and create job opportunities, reiterating his unwavering commitment to hard work as the genuine pathway to success.

During the meeting, the Minister of Defence and the Minister of Steel Development briefed the president on their discussions with Luan Steel Holding Group, a Chinese company. The discussions centered on the establishment of a new steel plant in Nigeria and the initiation of military hardware production at the Ajaokuta Steel Plant. A delegation led by the two ministers had traveled to Hefei and Guangzhou regions of China for business talks with key figures from Luan Steel Holding Group, including Chairman Mr. Wang Jianbing and CEO Mr. Xiao Weizhan.

Anticipating a substantial investment from the Chinese company, President Tinubu welcomed the prospect of the new steel plant in Nigeria. The Minister of Steel Development provided an update on the progress made in restarting the Light Steel Mill (LSM) section of the Ajaokuta Steel Complex, approved by the president. The project, costing N35 billion in the first stage, has garnered support from various financial institutions, with offer letters already secured. The minister projected that the initiative would generate up to 5,000 direct and indirect jobs for Nigerians, further contributing to the nation’s economic development.
