Anthony Chiejina, the Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Group, confirmed the commencement of operations, expressing gratitude to various entities, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support. Aliko Dangote, the Chairman of Dangote Group, thanked key organizations such as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, and Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, as well as the Nigerian people for their unwavering support.
Dangote emphasized the crucial role played by President Bola Tinubu in realizing the project, attributing its success to his visionary leadership. He acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the group’s bankers, financiers, the Government of Lagos State led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, host communities, and traditional leaders.
The Dangote Refinery, situated in the Dangote Industries Free Zone, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria, has a daily crude oil refining capacity of 650,000 barrels. The refinery, covering approximately 2,635 hectares, adheres to international standards, including Euro V specifications, World Bank guidelines, US EPA, European emission norms, and DPR emission/effluent norms.
Although the production of petrol has been delayed due to the phased supply of crude oil, the refinery is now operational for diesel and aviation fuel. The facility boasts the capability to load 2,900 trucks daily at its truck-loading gantries. With six shipments of one million barrels each of crude oil already received, the refinery is poised to make a significant impact on the country’s petroleum industry.
Nigerians are optimistic that the Dangote Refinery will contribute to a reduction in the price of petroleum products, marking a positive development for the nation.
