Maharaj Ji asserts having power over all illnesses and problems affecting humanity. His group, One Love Family, has an ashram called “Satguru Maharaj Ji Village” on the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway near Ibadan. Members of the group are vegetarians and wear badges signifying their loyalty.

The spiritual leader has faced controversies, with former members claiming in 1989 that 200 bodies were buried around the ashram. Despite his arrest, charges were dropped when no bodies were found. In 1999, the ashram was burned down, and Ji faced charges related to the incident. He was acquitted in 2000 after being kept in jail for several months.

Guru Maharaj Ji does not believe in marriage, considering it a distraction. In 2000, he controversially claimed that a visit by US President Bill Clinton to Nigeria was part of an American plan to open a military base and take control of Africa. In 2003, he attributed the re-election of Olusegun Obasanjo as president to a “Golden Change” he orchestrated. Predicting John Kerry’s victory over George W. Bush in 2004, he also warned church leaders about the proper use of contributions.

During the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic, Ji urged Nigerians to move away from religious practices and embrace divine knowledge to combat the virus. In December 2022, he predicted the victory of the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, citing regional preferences.

Despite the controversies surrounding him, Guru Maharaj Ji remains alive, and his followers continue to adhere to his teachings and predictions.
