The EFCC, under its former Chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa, had initiated an investigation into Matawalle’s alleged misappropriation of N70 billion from the Zamfara State government funds. The current acting Director of Public Affairs, Wilson Uwujaren, shared this information during a peaceful protest held by the Zamfara Alternative Forum (ZAF) at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja.
The Forum, led by Chairman Musa Sa’idu, urged the EFCC to diligently pursue the case to a logical conclusion. Uwujaren assured the protesters that the matter would be thoroughly examined, underscoring the EFCC’s commitment to addressing high-profile cases. He acknowledged the peaceful initiative by the Zamfara people and emphasized that nobody is exempt from the law.
Uwujaren stated, “The EFCC chairman has reviewed all high-profile cases inherited since assuming office. This case, like others, will not be an exception; it will be revisited, and appropriate action will be taken within the confines of the law. No one is above the law, and no case will be swept under the carpet.”
Chairman Musa Sa’idu highlighted the growing concerns about corruption in Nigeria and commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decisive actions against suspected embezzlement within his government. The Forum urged the EFCC to continue investigating the alleged mismanagement of public funds by Matawalle during his tenure as Governor, emphasizing the need to bring those responsible to justice as a deterrent against corrupt practices in public office.
Sa’idu emphasized the far-reaching effects of mismanagement of public funds, including hindering development, loss of revenue, and a decline in the quality of life for the people. The EFCC reassured the public that it would conduct a thorough review of the case and take appropriate legal actions if wrongdoing is established through the investigation.
