Addressing the audience at the inauguration ceremony in Abuja, Egbetokun emphasized that the squad comprised well-trained, well-equipped, and highly mobile police officers. He highlighted the squad’s capability for rapid intervention and efficient containment of significant security breaches, particularly those currently posing a threat to the FCT’s suburbs.
Egbetokun underscored the urgent need for decisive action in response to the alarming surge in criminal activities, emphasizing that the initiative was not only a necessity but a result of foresight, meticulous planning, and a commitment to bolstering the existing security infrastructure of the FCT.
Stressing the importance of safeguarding the lives and well-being of citizens, the I-G declared the FCT as a bastion of safety and a model of effective urban security management. He outlined the proactive approach to address potential threats and affirmed the duty of law enforcement to confront challenges head-on.
The I-G revealed that the envisioned squad would consist of a thousand personnel in each state, drawing officers and men from various tactical units within the force. The squad would be equipped with a formidable arsenal of operational assets, including advanced arms, drones, and vehicles, ready for deployment to counteract security threats.
Emphasizing the strategic significance of the operation, Egbetokun conveyed a clear message that criminal elements would find no sanctuary within the FCT and, by extension, Nigeria. He stressed that the initiative was more than a mere response but a bold strategy aimed at dismantling criminal networks entrenched in communities.
Furthermore, Egbetokun highlighted the squad’s commitment to community-oriented policing, aligning with the philosophy that public safety is a collaborative endeavor. He emphasized the importance of working closely with community leaders, residents, and stakeholders to strengthen the bonds between the Police Force and local communities, ensuring that every corner of the FCT remains a haven for its inhabitants.
