The Kano State Police Command has confirmed that the Divisional Police Office in Nasarawa Local Government Area suffered extensive damage due to a fire incident. “At about 05.45 a.m., the Divisional Police headquarters was engulfed by fire, resulting in significant damage to a major part of the building,” he stated. Gumel assured that the arms and ammunition in the office remained secure, and an ongoing investigation is being conducted to determine the cause of the fire.
To prevent interference by onlookers and miscreants, the affected area has been cordoned off. The Divisional Police Officer is currently working on salvaging some of the impacted documents, Gumel added.
This incident follows a previous fire at the Kano Police Command headquarters in Bompai earlier in the year, on Saturday, January 13. The fire, originating in the provost’s office, spread to various departments, including the Finance Department, Conference Room, the office of the Police Public Relations Officer, and others on the top floor of the Police Command building constructed in 1967. Fortunately, the office of the Police Commissioner was unaffected.
