The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) accused Emefiele of conspiring with Odoh Ocheme, who is currently on the run, to obtain $6.2 million from the CBN on February 8, 2023. The alleged scheme involved claiming that the funds were requested by the SGF through a letter dated January 26, 2023, with Ref No. SGF.43/L.01/.

Additionally, the anti-graft agency claimed that in January 2023, Emefiele forged a document titled “RE: PRESIDENTIAL DIRECTIVE ON FOREIGN ELECTION OBSERVER MISSIONS,” dated January 26, 2023, with Ref No. SGF.43/L.01/201.

During his testimony led by prosecution counsel Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), Mustapha emphasized that the documents did not originate from the president or his office. He refuted any connection to the money and pointed out discrepancies in the forged document, including the absence of the president’s seal and reference number, as well as inaccuracies in the signature reproduction.

Mustapha stated, “All through my service year as the SGF, I never came across these documents it was claimed that Buhari signed.” He also highlighted inconsistencies, such as the lack of a reference number on a document with the president’s seal, and affirmed that the signatures were a failed attempt at reproducing President Buhari’s signature.
