The tragic incident unfolded when Yandoto was reportedly summoned by the Community Protection Guards to their office in Tsafe town, the administrative center of Tsafe local government area, on Saturday. Allegedly, he was accused of colluding with bandits, as reported by Punch.

Senator Marafa, speaking to reporters after Yandoto’s funeral prayer in Yandoto town on February 13, 2024, disclosed that he had advised the late Lawal to heed the CPG’s invitation to address the allegations against him.

Marafa expressed shock upon learning that Yandoto had lost his life during the interrogation by the CPG. He alleged that the guards had tortured the deceased, stating, “From what we have seen, Magaji Lawal was allegedly killed by officials of the CPG as some of the people invited along with him were tortured and released.”

While expressing support for the government’s efforts to combat banditry, Marafa voiced concerns about the alleged recruitment of individuals with questionable character into the security forces. He pledged to follow appropriate channels to uncover the true circumstances surrounding Yandoto’s death.

In response to the incident, the state government has directed security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation. The Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Nakwada, stated in a Tuesday release that the incident arose from a clash between two factions of local vigilante groups in the area. The government assured that anyone found culpable in the incident would face legal consequences.

Photographs from the funeral and a video featuring Senator Marafa speaking after the ceremony are available for reference.
