Witnesses at the scene reported that the mangled bodies of the occupants from both vehicles were extricated by sympathizers and security agents. According to an anonymous resident in the area, there were 12 people involved in the accident, with eight fatalities on the spot. Unfortunately, the four others taken to the hospital succumbed to their injuries by Wednesday.
The resident provided details about the vehicles involved, mentioning that the golf car (commercial) carried nine passengers, while the Nissan (private) had three passengers. Contrary to this account, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Benue State Command, Steve Ayodele, stated on Wednesday that the accident occurred at 12:32 pm on Tuesday along the Kastina-Ala-Zakibiam road at Ngibo village, involving only 10 individuals.
Ayodele attributed the cause of the accident to overspeeding and an attempt by one of the vehicles to evade a pothole. He explained that the collision resulted in the tragic loss of eight lives, including four female adults, three male adults, and one female child. Two individuals sustained injuries and were promptly transported to the Kastina-Ala general hospital for medical attention.
Describing it as a head-on collision, Ayodele emphasized that one of the vehicles swerved to avoid a pothole, leading to the fatal outcome of the multiple-vehicle accident.
