Gowon acknowledged the inevitable criticism that comes with leadership but highlighted that those in positions of power have a better understanding of the complexities involved. He noted that it is too early to draw absolute conclusions about the success or failure of the current administration, drawing parallels with his own experiences during the war when he faced criticism for being perceived as too slow.
In discussing his meeting with President Tinubu, Gowon clarified that they addressed various matters, including plans related to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). As the surviving leader and founding father of ECOWAS, Gowon expressed the importance of resolving the ongoing issues within the organization. He debunked reports suggesting that he had refused to attend an ECOWAS conference, clarifying that it was a case of miscommunication.
Gowon concluded by expressing optimism that the matters discussed, including the ECOWAS situation, had been resolved. He indicated that a message regarding the resolution would likely be communicated later in the day, reinforcing the collaborative efforts between him and President Tinubu to address regional challenges.
