A prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former member of the National Working Committee (NWC), Salihu Moh Lukman, has raised a cautionary flag, suggesting the potential emergence of a rebellion owing to the challenging living conditions prevalent in the nation.
Expressing dissatisfaction, Lukman criticized the eight-year tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari, asserting that it failed to instill the necessary minimum standards expected from APC elected leaders.
In a statement released in Abuja, the former National Vice Chairman for the North-West accused his party of neglecting the welfare of Nigerians, emphasizing that APC leaders were evading responsibility for the nation’s crisis and adopting a passive stance.
Lukman questioned the rationale behind President Bola Tinubu tolerating such practices within the party. He argued that even former President Olusegun Obasanjo, despite his military background, never engaged in undemocratic conduct of this nature.
Highlighting recent signs of unrest, including protests and the looting of food warehouses by citizens expressing discontent with hunger, Lukman warned that these incidents exhibited leaderless characteristics. He criticized the APC’s leadership for not proactively addressing these challenges and instead observing from a distance.
In a call for accountability, Lukman urged the leaders of the APC to recognize their role in the current situation, emphasizing that elected governments under former President Buhari and now under President Tinubu displayed a tendency to operate independently without embracing necessary consultations outlined in the APC Constitution.
He questioned President Tinubu’s acceptance of the unfolding scenario within the APC, suggesting that the party’s leadership might be transitioning into a role resembling that of a Receiver-Manager. Lukman also challenged APC leaders to broaden their engagement with President Tinubu’s administration beyond seeking appointments, emphasizing the need for a more comprehensive relationship to earn the respect of Nigerians.
