Actor Jerrod Carmichael is shedding light on his family’s reaction following his revelation about his sexuality.
He is unveiling a docuseries that delves into his family dynamics, interactions with celebrity friends, and the introduction of his new boyfriend, which has sparked tension within his family.
Previously, Carmichael earned acclaim for his Emmy-winning stand-up special titled “Rothaniel” in 2022, where he discussed the strain in his relationship with his religious mother after coming out as gay.
His upcoming docuseries, “Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show,” promises an in-depth exploration of the aftermath of his coming-out experience with his family.
One scene in the trailer captures his mother’s attempt to pray away his homosexuality as they sit together on the couch.
“Lord, I come to you, Jerrod and I. Take the desire from my son to be with a male. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen,” she earnestly prays.
Scheduled to premiere on March 29, the docuseries will depict the repercussions of the 34-year-old comedian’s decision to come out as gay.
