Sowore Reconnects With Family In The US, Escaping Treason Charges After Five Years....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Activist Omoyele Sowore is poised to leave Nigeria for the United States after enduring almost five years of what he characterizes as “unlawful, unjust, and inhuman detention.”
In a statement shared via his official X account, Sowore announced his imminent return to the US, denouncing the corrupt Nigerian political system that held him since August 2019.
Sowore’s journey has been fraught with challenges since his arrest in August 2019 on treason charges, which were eventually dropped by the Nigerian government after an extended legal battle. Throughout this tumultuous period, Sowore remained unwavering in his commitment to a better Nigeria, enduring assault, torture, and isolation.
Before his departure, Sowore reflected on the personal toll of his imprisonment, recounting missed moments with family, including the tragic loss of his brother to violence on Nigerian roads and his mother’s declining health due to the emotional strain of his incarceration. Despite these hardships, Sowore emphasized his steadfast resolve to advocate for the Nigerian people.
Asserting that the calls for radical restructuring and revolution in Nigerian politics made five years ago still hold true, Sowore highlighted the persistent corruption and worsened conditions facing Nigerians today. Despite the challenges, he expressed gratitude to his family, legal team, colleagues, and fellow activists for their unwavering support.
While Sowore’s departure signifies a temporary hiatus from the Nigerian struggle, he assured supporters that he will return to continue the fight. Resolute in his dedication to creating a just and egalitarian society in Nigeria, Sowore acknowledges the legal challenges awaiting him but remains committed to advocating for the complete liberation of the Nigerian people from corruption and oppression.
