Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Ajaero emphasized that the government must not turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to the struggles of the people but rather fulfill its responsibilities. He criticized the government’s dismissal of citizens’ protests against hardships, particularly their claim that some individuals were sponsoring the demonstrations.

Ajaero pointed out the severity of the food scarcity, noting that Nigerians have resorted to scavenging, raiding food trucks, and warehouses in their desperation for sustenance. He underscored the need for the government to recognize the gravity of the situation and take decisive action to address the suffering of the people.

The NLC president attributed recent incidents of looting, including those in Abuja, to government policies that have contributed to the impoverishment of the population. He warned that unless proactive measures are taken, such incidents may escalate, stressing that hunger is a potent unifier and motivator.

In response to threats and violence aimed at inhibiting their advocacy, Ajaero asserted that the labor movement cannot be intimidated. He emphasized their commitment to fulfilling their mandate and holding the government accountable for the welfare of the people, emphasizing that their mission is not against any individual but aimed at ensuring justice and addressing the prevailing hardships.
