The 34-year-old movie star was appointed as a global artist-in-residence in 2023 at Michigan, collaborating with the African Studies Center and the Department of Afro-American and African Studies (DAAS) to develop audio-visual materials for teaching African languages.

Originally from Lagos, Omowunmi Dada, during her residency, imparted knowledge and supervised students and educators across Southeast Michigan, shedding light on Nollywood and African filmmaking.

Having graced the screens of Nollywood for nearly a decade, her notable films highlight her remarkable journey in the industry. She starred in the acclaimed movie “Ayinla,” alongside Kunle Afolayan and Lateef Adedimeji, and played a pivotal role in Netflix’s original series “Madam Koi Koi” in 2023, as well as Mercy Aigbe’s “Ada Omo Daddy.”

As the global program draws to a close, Omowunmi shares her joy by posting a video capturing the memorable event on her Instagram page. The footage captures the moment she was acknowledged for her contributions as an artist-in-residence in Michigan and awarded a certificate of honor.

In her heartfelt caption accompanying the video, she reflects, “As my time as the 2023 Artist-in-residence at the University of Michigan comes to an end, my heart is filled with gratitude.”
