Gunmen have abducted Tony Aziegbemi, the Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The incident occurred shortly after Aziegbemi’s meeting with Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, in Benin City on Friday, March 15.

While the state police authorities have not yet commented on the situation, the Edo State Government confirmed the kidnapping on Saturday, March 16. Chris Nehikhare, the state Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, released a statement affirming the government’s efforts to secure Aziegbemi’s release.

Nehikhare stated that the government is collaborating closely with security agencies to address the situation, labeling the abduction as regrettable. He emphasized the government’s determination to ensure Aziegbemi’s safe return and highlighted the intensification of surveillance and security measures across the state to combat criminal activities.

Residents were urged to continue their daily activities without fear, with Nehikhare advising them to report any suspicious individuals or activities to the state emergency numbers. He reiterated the commitment of the Edo State Government to safeguarding lives and properties, emphasizing that no efforts would be spared in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
