NDDC Pleads With President Tinubu To Exclude Commission From TSA Implementation....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has made an appeal to the Federal Government, seeking exemption from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) framework. This plea was voiced by Chief Tony Okocha, the Rivers State Representative on the NDDC Management Board, during a press briefing held after his meeting with contractors managing projects in the state. The meeting, held at the state office in Port Harcourt, aimed to address the concerning issue of abandoned projects within Rivers State, which Okocha revealed numbered over 952.

Okocha emphasized that the NDDC’s inclusion in the TSA has hindered its ability to efficiently disburse funds for project implementation. He expressed his belief that the commission would better serve its mandate by having the flexibility to allocate funds directly to contractors. This, according to Okocha, would help address the prevalence of abandoned projects in the state.

During the briefing, Okocha highlighted the importance of engaging with contractors to assess the progress of ongoing projects and to communicate the vision and mission of the NDDC. He stressed the need for collaboration between the commission and contractors to tackle the challenges facing project execution.

Acknowledging the economic realities of the country, Okocha urged contractors to return to project sites and resume work. He emphasized his commitment to addressing the backlog of abandoned projects inherited by the NDDC in Rivers State and urged contractors to join hands in revitalizing these initiatives for the benefit of the region.

In summary, the NDDC’s appeal for exemption from the TSA underscores its commitment to optimizing project delivery and addressing the longstanding issue of abandoned projects in Rivers State. Through collaboration with contractors and strategic interventions, the commission aims to enhance its operational efficiency and fulfill its mandate of fostering development in the Niger Delta region.
