In Belvedere, KwaZulu-Natal ZN, a tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday afternoon, March 20, 2024, as a South African man fatally shot his estranged wife before taking his own life, all transpiring in front of their 10-year-old daughter.

Upon arrival, paramedics from a Private Ambulance Service were attending to a male with a gunshot wound to his head. Meanwhile, the lifeless body of the female, also with a gunshot wound to her head, was found on the driveway.

Investigations revealed that the man and woman were married but separated. The man, an Armed Response Officer (ARO) for a national company, arrived at the location in uniform and in his company vehicle to pick up their child. An argument escalated, leading him to use his company-issued firearm to shoot the female before turning it on himself.

At the scene, four spent 9mm cartridges were recovered. The critically injured man was stabilized and rushed to the hospital in serious condition. Fortunately, the child, though visibly traumatized, escaped physical harm.

The motive behind the tragic shooting remains unknown at this time.
