The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) announced on Sunday a series of extensive raids conducted across Lagos, Edo, and Ondo states, resulting in the confiscation of a staggering 44,948.1 kilograms (44.9 tonnes) of illicit drugs. Alongside this seizure, eight suspects were apprehended, and 11 vehicles linked to drug cartels were impounded.

According to Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy for NDLEA, the operations included the destruction of 7,687.8 kilograms of cannabis discovered in a warehouse situated in the Ala forest in Akure, Ondo state. Additionally, 670 kilograms of the illicit substance were evacuated during these raids on Saturday, March 23, 2024.

Furthermore, a significant quantity of psychoactive substances, totaling 14,310.8625 kilograms, was incinerated on 5.7 hectares of farms located in the Ohosu/Ugbogui forest within the Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State. During this operation, five suspects were arrested, including Sunday Otulugbu, aged 67, along with Agbayeogor Joshua, Kelvin Ofuasia, Williams Peter, and Kamaru Onimisi, aged between 37 and 45 years old.

The NDLEA’s swift and decisive actions underscore their commitment to combating the illicit drug trade, safeguarding communities, and bringing perpetrators to justice.
