The Nigerian Presidency reiterated its commitment to tackling the country’s infrastructural deficiencies on Tuesday, stressing the need for citizens to contribute to national development beyond mere reliance on prayers.
During an interview on Channels Television’s “Politics Today,” Aliyu Audu, the Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, underscored the importance of practical actions in addressing Nigeria’s myriad challenges rather than relying solely on divine intervention.
Audu criticized past shortcomings in saving and preparing for the future, despite warnings from economic experts. He emphasized the significance of collective efforts in national development, stating, “Nigeria progresses when its people do. Prayers alone cannot resolve issues. It requires time. We must come to terms with that reality. There are no quick fixes.”
This appeal comes in the wake of President Bola Tinubu’s endorsement of the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund, a strategic initiative aimed at driving infrastructure growth across key sectors such as agriculture, transportation, ports, aviation, energy, healthcare, and education.
The fund aims to stimulate economic expansion, local value addition, job creation, technological innovation, and increased exports. It intends to leverage various investment strategies, including direct project financing through budget allocations, public-private partnerships, collaboration with multilateral development institutions, and equity investments.
This diversified approach seeks to ensure comprehensive and sustainable infrastructure development nationwide.
