Fubara Declares End To Political War In Rivers, Calls For Peace And Unity
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has declared an end to political hostilities in the state, explaining that he decided to stop fighting because his priority is to ensure peace, stability and development across Rivers State.
The governor made the declaration on Saturday during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally in Port Harcourt, where he told supporters that Rivers State had entered a new political chapter after a prolonged period of disagreements and tension.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Fubara acknowledged that the state had experienced significant political divisions, noting that both political leaders and their supporters had been involved in the disagreements, while ordinary residents suffered the consequences.
He maintained that continued political conflict would prevent the state from achieving meaningful progress, stressing that the priority should now be on rebuilding relationships and creating an atmosphere that supports development.
Fubara called on political leaders and their followers to embrace forgiveness, put past disagreements behind them and work together for the benefit of the people.
He said Rivers State had lost valuable time to political battles and that the focus should now shift towards governance, infrastructure and improving the lives of residents.
The governor also described the APC rally as evidence that political relationships in the state were changing, pointing out that individuals who previously disagreed were now appearing together on the same platform.
According to him, the period of political division in Rivers State should be over, as leaders must work together and speak with a common voice.
Fubara further declared his support for President Bola Tinubu, saying Rivers State would demonstrate its appreciation for the President through votes in the 2027 general election.
He said Tinubu had shown goodwill towards the state, adding that the people of Rivers were prepared to reciprocate the gesture at the polls.
The governor’s remarks come amid efforts to ease political tensions in Rivers State and strengthen cooperation among political leaders following the prolonged crisis that had affected the state’s political environment.
