Senate President Godswill Akpabio has applauded the reconciliation between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, describing the development as an important step towards restoring political stability in the state and strengthening the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Akpabio praised both political leaders, particularly Governor Fubara, for embracing peace and putting their differences aside.

The Senate President made the remarks on Saturday, November 7, 2026, during the APC Rainbow Coalition Presidential Campaign Rally held at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

He expressed confidence that the reconciliation between Wike and Fubara would improve the party’s chances of securing victory for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Akpabio described Wike as a politician who stands by agreements, stressing that political commitments should be respected. He also commended Fubara for supporting the peace initiative, saying the relative calm in Rivers State would play a significant role in the party’s electoral plans.

The Senate President further expressed optimism that Rivers voters would once again demonstrate strong support for Tinubu in 2027, recalling the President’s performance in the state during the 2023 presidential election.

He described the people of Rivers as politically conscious voters capable of making decisive choices during elections, adding that their previous voting pattern showed their influence in determining electoral outcomes.

Akpabio also praised Wike’s political influence and his performance as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, stating that Rivers State should be proud of producing influential political figures.

He equally commended President Tinubu for what he described as his ability to identify capable individuals and appoint them to strategic government positions.

Speaking on the President’s economic policies, Akpabio urged Nigerians to support Tinubu’s re-election bid, arguing that the administration’s reforms were aimed at addressing longstanding economic challenges.

He specifically defended the removal of the fuel subsidy, describing the policy as a necessary step towards tackling corruption and economic distortions.

Akpabio maintained that despite the difficult adjustments associated with the subsidy removal, Nigeria had remained together and continued to navigate the challenges arising from the policy.

The Senate President’s comments came amid renewed efforts to consolidate political support in Rivers State following the reconciliation between Wike and Fubara, with the APC expressing confidence that the development would strengthen its position ahead of the 2027 elections.
