Irabor Calls For Vigilance Against See Finish Syndrome....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Former Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor (retired), has underscored the significance of the military avoiding the phenomenon known as the “see-finish” syndrome during non-kinetic operations.
He further advocated for comprehensive reviews and discussions concerning the recent killings of soldiers in Delta State.
Naija News recalls a distressing incident where enraged youths took the lives of 17 military personnel, including four officers and 13 soldiers, amid a communal clash over a land dispute in Bomadi and Okuoma communities within the state.
The personnel from the 181 Amphibious Battalion, responding to the distress call, fell into an ambush and lost their lives on March 14.
Addressing the Chief of Defence Staff Joint Task Force Commanders Conference in Abuja on Tuesday, Irabor condemned the barbaric manner in which the military personnel were slain, emphasizing that there was no justification for such acts.
He stressed the necessity of deliberating on constraints concerning aid to civil authority to avert the recurrence of similar tragic events.
Irabor remarked, “The recent tragic incident in Okuama, where we mourned the loss of our courageous and deeply committed officers and soldiers, demands further scrutiny and dialogue. Their demise under such grotesque and brutal circumstances cannot and will never be rationalized.
“The perpetrators of this atrocious crime must face the full consequences of the law. To prevent future incidents, there must be deeper discussions on the boundaries of aid to civil authority.
“As we promote non-kinetic operations and community engagements, are there delineations? Is it an all-encompassing mandate? Should the military assume the role of first responders in crises such as the Okuama/Okoloba conflict? Are there definitive boundaries? The Armed Forces of Nigeria must restrain the apparent trend towards the ‘see-finish syndrome’.
“The credibility of the Armed Forces, if ever tarnished, will portend ominous implications for the nation. Therefore, I urge us to uphold the standards of professional excellence. This conference should explore the viable avenues in this regard.
