HURIWA Slams FG Over Lack Of Action Against Kidnappers Of 137 School Children....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Civil rights advocacy organization, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), has urged the Federal Government to clarify why none of the perpetrators responsible for the abduction of recently rescued schoolchildren in Kaduna State were apprehended.
The group emphasized that if indeed no ransom was paid to secure the release of the 137 children, then the federal government must substantiate this claim.
The coordinator of the group, Emmanuel Onwubiko, conveyed this stance through an official statement.
HURIWA criticized the federal government’s handling of the abduction incident, labeling it as propaganda.
Onwubiko questioned the government’s narrative surrounding the rescue operation, highlighting the absence of any casualties or captures among the abductors.
He stated, “We cannot comprehend the government’s insistence on discussing whether a ransom was paid or not. If the government asserts that no ransom was exchanged for the children’s release and if indeed these children were rescued as reported, were they left abandoned in a remote area by the terrorists? Why did the rescuers not engage or detain any of the terrorists?”
Regarding the government’s assurance that the children were unharmed, Onwubiko expressed skepticism, suggesting that the Minister of Information and National Orientation should rectify any misconceptions regarding the traumatic ordeal the children endured.
He emphasized the necessity of professional counseling for the children to overcome the emotional distress inflicted by the kidnapping.
Onwubiko criticized the government for failing in its constitutional duty to safeguard citizens’ lives, particularly vulnerable members of society like schoolchildren.
He concluded by condemning the lack of accountability within security agencies for their intelligence failure, insinuating complicity with impunity and lawlessness within the government.
