Dangote, Rabiu Lose $3.8 Billion As Otedola Returns To Forbes Billionaires List....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Nigerian tycoons Aliko Dangote and Abdulsamad Rabiu have experienced a notable downturn in their fortunes, collectively losing $3.8 billion over the past year, according to the latest data from the Forbes World’s Billionaires List 2024.

This decrease represents a significant 16.9 percent decline, resulting in their combined wealth dwindling from $22.4 billion to $18.6 billion.

Forbes, renowned for its meticulous tracking of billionaire assets, highlighted that Dangote’s wealth saw a reduction of $0.8 billion, bringing his total to $13.4 billion, while Rabiu faced a more substantial drop of $3.0 billion, leaving him with $5.2 billion.

In contrast, Mike Adenuga saw an increase in his wealth by $0.6 billion, reaching a total of $6.7 billion.

This decline in fortunes for Dangote and Rabiu is partly attributed to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) decision to float the currency in June, resulting in a significant devaluation of the naira against the U.S. dollar.

The merging of FX market segments by the CBN and the adoption of a flexible exchange rate have further impacted the value of the naira, exacerbating the depreciation of the billionaires’ wealth.

Despite these challenges, Dangote managed to reclaim his position as Africa’s wealthiest individual earlier this year, surpassing South Africa’s Johann Rupert.

Additionally, Femi Otedola made a comeback to the Forbes list with a net worth of $1.4 billion, attributed to his stake in Geregu Power.

Globally, the number of billionaires has reached a record high of 2,781, with total fortunes amounting to $14.2 trillion, according to Forbes.

The top 20 contributors to this wealth and the United States, boasting a record 813 billionaires, have significantly fueled this accumulation of riches.

While China holds the second position with 473 billionaires, and despite economic challenges, India ranks third with a record 200 billionaires, highlighting the dynamic and ever-evolving landscape of global wealth.
