The Nigeria Navy Ship Luguard, stationed in Kogi State, successfully intercepted a shipment of 620 tonnes of cannabis sativa, commonly known as Indian hemp. According to reports gathered by Naija News, this interception by the Nigerian Navy resulted in the apprehension of a lone suspect identified as Aliyu Lawal.
Commander Mosses Epelle of the Nigerian Navy Ship Luguard revealed that the arrest took place on April 4th, 2024, at the Jamata checkpoint in Lokoja. The suspect was found transporting 620 parcels, weighing approximately 110 kilograms, of suspected marijuana in a navy blue golf car bearing registration number HK511ABC.
“During the operation, one of the two suspects managed to escape, leaving Aliyu Lawal behind,” stated Epelle. Lawal admitted to transporting the substance from Edo State to Abuja with a final destination of Lokoja. Among the items recovered from the suspect were a Police MESS membership card and a camouflage jungle hat, which were presumably used to facilitate passage through checkpoints.
Despite attempts to bribe the naval personnel, Lawal’s efforts were futile due to the unwavering commitment of the Navy to professionalism, integrity, and teamwork, as emphasized by Epelle.
Epelle issued a stern warning to individuals involved in illicit activities, urging them to abandon such pursuits as the law would inevitably catch up with them.
The Nigerian Navy remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety and security of the nation’s waters.
