The Borno State Government expressed deep sadness over the continued captivity of 89 out of the 276 abducted girls from Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, by Boko Haram. The State Commissioner for Information and Internal Security Affairs, Prof Usman Tar, conveyed this during a press conference marking the 10th anniversary of the abduction.

On April 14, 2014, Boko Haram terrorists abducted 276 schoolgirls from Government Secondary School in Chibok, with over 50 managing to escape immediately by jumping off the truck. Regrettably, a decade later, around 90 of the abducted girls remain in captivity, with some reportedly married off and having become mothers.

Tar revealed that 187 of the 276 abducted Chibok girls have been rescued and reunited with their families, with efforts ongoing for the remaining 89. The rescued girls have been enrolled in various programs to empower them.

The commissioner emphasized ongoing prayers and efforts for the safe return of all remaining captives, urging patience from the families. He assured that the government, in collaboration with security agencies, is dedicated to rescuing the girls still in captivity.
