A 27-year-old man from Tunisia faced an unexpected ordeal when he fractured his penis in two places while sleeping, resulting in what doctors described as an “eggplant” deformity. The incident occurred when the man inadvertently rolled over onto his erect penis, causing a distinct snapping sound followed by intense pain, flaccidity, and swelling. Prompt medical attention is crucial for such penile fractures due to their potential severity, as noted in a case study published in the International Surgery of Case Reports.

Despite experiencing alarming symptoms, the patient delayed seeking medical help for 36 hours. Upon examination at the hospital, doctors noted significant swelling, a deviation to the right, and a blood clot at the base of the penis. The characteristic eggplant deformity, characterized by swollen and purple-like appearance similar to an eggplant, indicated a fracture or break in the penile tissue known as the tunica albuginea.

Although the penis lacks bones, the term “fracture” is used to describe tears in the tunica albuginea, crucial for penile enlargement and erection. Under general anesthesia, surgeons carefully exposed the affected area and confirmed two fractures measuring 7 millimeters and 10 millimeters, respectively. Suffering multiple fractures is uncommon in medical practice.

Fortunately, doctors successfully repaired the fractures and sutured the lacerations, enabling the patient’s discharge from the hospital. Within days, the swelling subsided, and by the fourth day, the patient regained full erectile function. Remarkably, he experienced no long-term issues with urination or sexual function as a result of the incident.

As per the medical follow-up over 12 months, the patient remained free from complications, indicating a positive outcome from the treatment.
