Criminal Charges Loom As Sagay Condemns Ododo’s Role In Blocking EFCC From Yahaya Bello Arrest....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

A legal expert, Professor Itse Sagay, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has asserted that Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State committed a criminal offense by shielding his predecessor, Yahaya Bello, from potential arrest. Sagay, who formerly chaired the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) during Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure, made these remarks.

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had surrounded Bello’s residence in Abuja over allegations of financial misappropriation totaling N80.2 billion. Despite the EFCC’s invitation, Bello reportedly evaded arrest.

In response, Ododo arrived at Bello’s residence and allegedly facilitated his escape from EFCC operatives. Sagay criticized Ododo’s actions, stating that he misused the immunity privilege by assisting Bello’s escape, an act deemed illegal and unconstitutional.

Sagay praised the EFCC for exercising restraint and refraining from engaging in physical confrontations with the governor’s security team. He emphasized that Ododo’s actions amounted to harboring a fugitive, constituting a criminal offense and making him an accessory after the fact.

Sagay advised Bello to voluntarily surrender to the EFCC to avoid further embarrassment, emphasizing that evading arrest would tarnish his image and inevitably lead to his apprehension. He urged Bello to preserve his dignity by cooperating with the EFCC, assuring him that if found innocent, he would be released, and if charged, he would have the opportunity to prepare his defense.

The legal expert stressed the importance of Bello’s responsible surrender to uphold his dignity and prevent unnecessary humiliation. He warned that regardless of Bello’s actions, the EFCC would ultimately apprehend.
